The Adventures of
Oslo ~ ~ Saturday, February 28th, 2004
In late February 2004, I finally lived into one of my lifetime dreams and got a dog, an 8-week-old Golden Retriever, who I named Oslo. For the next 45 days, I wrote daily emails to my parents about Oslo’s activities. Here's one...
Dear Mom and Dad,
Well,
we are both really tired... OSLO is conked out on the floor under my feet lying
on his side... (It is sorta sinking in that he is going to grow and grow fast...
I think maybe I was talking to Nancy on the phone and watched his paws grow.)
Oh
Yeah, his cousin Jazz called to welcome him into the family. That was after
OSLO had what we'll call his first devil monster moment, but since he is named
OSLO I think we'll really call them Troll Monster moments. And really he didn't
do anything wrong. We took a nap around noon and then took a walk around the
immediate block, something his master hasn't done probably in six years. On our
walk, sometimes OSLO would want to just sit down and look all around him, he
even did some piddling. Then upon arriving back home, OSLO climbed back
upstairs and drunk a whole lot of water. and piddle on the rug. How stupid of
me, I should have remembered the old “what goes in comes right out.” I sat down
to read the newspapers, but OSLO was wired and wanted to play and I wanted to
read the newspaper, OSLO kept tugging at the newspaper, because he couldn’t see
me…
LaVonne the breeder said it was okay
for Oslo to play with dogs that had respectable owners and was sure all had had
the right shots.” So Ginger came to... with August and Julie, “at first I
didn't know what to do with Ginger, but then I remembered my brothers and
sisters in the kennel and I started to play. Ginger didn't really know what to
do with me either and suddenly we both started playing fun and I got a bit
nervous and I jumped right into my master's lap and wouldn't you guess, he just
started to tell me how wonderful I was and giving me all kinds of kisses. It
was fun."
When
OSLO jumped into my lap, I felt a surging thrust of true dog companionship; it
was wonderful. I’ll try and sleep by his crate again tonight and we'll see how
it goes.
I
think OSLO likes living here. More tomorrow...
Love,
John
