Pure Marketing

A Fall Newsletter / "Some Thoughts from John on what's new at OSLO's for Fall 2007"

About as straight forward that I can get in writing... Just trying to sell clothes!

I took some months off.

Well truth is, a few days vacation. But in case you’ve thought you missed an email, you haven’t. I’ve always believed and committed to not bombarding our customers with too many emails. So hope you enjoyed the respite. That being said, I now probably have too much to share with you!

What better time to break out from the routine but with a flash of color and a dash of plaid then in Spring. It’s all about attitude!

Seattle Weekly wrote in their Spring Fashion Issue: “Fortunately, McDowell didn’t drink the monochromatic kool aid…” yeah, it’s true not a kool aid fan, and not monochromatic, but at Oslo’s you will find colors or patterns and if you want to be monochromatic, how about an orange pant, shirt and hat.

On a bit more traditional front, Seattle Metropolitan featured clothes from Oslo’s in their April Spring Fashion feature. Seersucker from Gant, and a navy blazer from Robert Graham paired off with denim created a great showing.

We talk a lot about building your own style at Oslo’s and so with that in mind, I’m always looking for the brands and the pieces that can work as foundation pieces or window dressing. Never one to dress entirely in one brand, I’m about encouraging guys to develop their own style with great pieces and attitude. So last Fall, when I went shopping for Spring, I found lots to bring back to Seattle that fit both options.

Some new things I love and hope you will too:
  • HICKEY takes the classic tradition of Hickey Freeman and tighten the silhouette to create a style for the rogue inside all of us. Linen sports coats, embroidered “moonshine” pants and shirts made in Heaven. Seriously!
  • CASTLESTARR has an ease and comfort that speaks a relaxed town and country style.
  • From Italy both RARE and GRAN SASSO have been added to our shelves offering more boldness, more color, more fun, two completely different attitudes and lots of great pieces.
  • ICHABOD – Made in Spain these cotton polos, with unique colors, patches of contrasting fabrics, are fun, easy and go well either with shorts or jeans.
  • JOHN VARVATOS collaborates with CONVERSE to create a “guys line” with a mid 20th century gym class aesthetic.
  • Every man should own a good pair of khakis, they are an essential building block and BILLS KHAKIS introduces the M3 –a new slimmer lean fit to add to the assortment of M1s and M2s. The M3 arrived in stores earlier this month, and if you’ve felt the M2 still too baggy, come in and try an M3.
  • And needless to say, I can’t close without mentioning some of our familiar favorites, JAMES PERSE, THEORY, MASONS, ISLAND SOFT, LOOMSTATE, NAPAPIJRI and our denim wall filled with AG, EARNEST SEWN, AGAVE, CHIP & PEPPER, SEVEN FOR MANKIND, UNION and 575.

Lots of options, lots of choices, lots of attitude, you work hard, you deserve to look your best.  Have a great Spring whether you’re at work or on vacation, in your weekly routine or hard at play as you build your own style, remember, we’re here to help.

Sincerely,
John McDowell
